Stomp Those Grapes!


It’s that wonderful time of year when Texas wineries invite you to get your feet purple and stomp some grapes. Delysia Chocolatier has compiled a round-up of all of the stompin’ good times to be had along the Texas Hill Country wine trail.

Pedernales Cellars Grape Stomp
August 16-17

Participate in the ancient practice of crushing grapes by foot, and then make a souvenir of the experience by placing your purply footprints on a commemorative T-shirt. The T-shirt can be purchased in the Pedernales Cellars tasting room for $14.99. There will be live music to accompany the stompin’ on August 17.

Texas Hills Vineyard 13th Annual Grape Stomp
August 17-18 & 24-25
Enjoy the smells of new wine and the excitement of  the harvest season. Have a glass of wine paired with Texas cheeses, sausage and crackers on our patio while stomping grapes (Remember Lucy!) to the romantic sounds of Italian music. Don’t miss out on footprinting a t-shirt to remember the occasion.

Fall Creek Vineyards  24th Annual Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival
August 17
Extraordinary two-course lunch & demos will be offered by star chefs Brad Turner, Senior Sous Chef of the Carillon New American Grill & Cowboy Chef Paul Petersen of the Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. There are two seatings each Saturday, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Patio lunches are also available by reservation. There is something for the entire family – wine tastings, live music, bocce ball, ping pong, tours & more. For kids there will be a Castle Bounce, play house, face painting & hayrides. Of course the main attraction is the ‘stomp’ where guests can kick off their shoes and experience the thrill of  bare feet grape stomping, a la I Love Lucy. The classic episode will be playing so guests can  ‘stomp along’ in the wine barrels.

Solaro Estate Harvest 2013
August 24
If participating in a grape harvest and crush is on your bucket list, Solaro Estate Winery is harvesting three Estate Vineyards at 6 am on August 24, 2013. Participants will be cutting the grape clusters, filling the buckets and transporting them to the winery for crush and fermenting. Invite your friends for a day of harvest, food and live Austin music. Chisholm Trail Winery Annual Labor Day Grape Stomp
August 31
Stomping is free and there are no reservations required. Souvenir bandanas will be available for purchase if you would like to save your stomp prints.  Enjoy lunch featuring delicious wood-fired gourmet pizza from our very own restaurant, The Oval Oven at Chisholm Trail Winery. Or, beat the heat with a refreshing frozen sangria or peach bellini. Enjoy live music in our tasting room by John Arthur Martinez  from 2-5 pm.

Becker Vineyards Grape Stomp
August 24-25 & September 1st
“Stomp Me, Crush Me, Make Me Wine!”  Celebrate the grape harvest the original way – wine barrels will be cut in half and filled with grapes.   Souvenir t-shirts available for your “stomp prints”.  Live music. Saturdays 10 am to 6 pm; Sundays noon to 6 pm.  Stomping is free.  Souvenir t-shirts $20.  Wine tasting fees apply. On September 1st, join us for The 10th Annual Lucy & The Italian Woman Costume Contest at 3 pm. Contestants are judging on costume, stomping ability, and enthusiasm.  No entry fee to participate.

Nicole Patel

Nicole Patel is the proprietor of and chocolatier for Delysia Chocolatier. In 2006 while pregnant with her first son, Nicole made a batch of chocolate truffles as holiday gifts. To the delight of friends and family, she continued to create chocolates as a way to relieve stress from her corporate engineering job. In 2008, a chance trip to Becker Vineyards led to Nicole being the first in Texas to make truffles using local wines. Within five years, what started as a hobby turned Delysia into one of the Top Ten Chocolatiers in the Americas, as selected by the International Chocolate Salon.
