In this season when we give thanks for what we have, it is nice to remember that not everyone may be as fortunate but you can make an impact on their lives. November 15th is National Philanthropy Day, (NPD). NPD is the day to celebrate everyone coming together for a common good. Charitable people unite to improve their communities in various ways. You can volunteer, tutor, donate, or even create a care package! If you’re interested in celebrating NPD, or just giving back during the holiday seasons, then read further to find a charity that suits you.
Red Cross
The Red Cross provides numerous ways to get involved in your communities or surrounding areas. They have blood donations, crisis managements, education, etc. Check out their volunteer page to see how you are able to give back!
Delysia Holiday Event
Delysia Chocolatier will be doing it’s own part in giving back this holiday season. On December 4th, join us for our holiday celebration with Santa and chocolate bark making where we ask that everyone brings an unwrapped toy to be donated to Partnerships for Children. Partnerships for Children supports children in the care of Child Protective Services during the holiday season. RSVP to Delysia’s event here.
Donate
Donating items is one of the best ways to help your community. Go through your closets and boxes to rid yourself of the clothing items you no longer wear. Goodwill takes donations of all sorts if you have more than clothes to give away.
Pet Shelters
Your local Humane Societies are always looking for volunteers and donations especially in the colder months when weather conditions make it dangerous for animals on their own. You can gather the whole family and spend time with adoptable pets who just want some extra love and attention. If playing with animals isn’t for you, then donate blankets, toys, or food. Many shelters need cleaning supplies so talk to your local shelters and see what they could use your help with.
Food Banks
Food banks are always looking for volunteers. Gather your friends and help feed some of the homeless around your area. They will be grateful and you might get to hear some pretty interesting stories. If time is not on your side, then empty your pantry of non-perishable items to donate. Your food bank will distribute them to families in need.
Care Packages
Want to get your children involved? Have them create sweet care packages to our troops overseas who do not get to spend the holidays with their families.
