Notes from the Chocolatier: Summer joy yearround

As summer comes to an end, we transfer our energies to work, school, and the plethora of responsibilities we are given on a daily basis. How can we bring the essence of summer – the joy, relaxation, and adventure – into our lives throughout the year? I’m reminded during this time that the joys of summer can continue in every aspect of our lives no matter the season. Enjoying a long lunch, chatting with the supermarket attendant, preparing a meal for your family- our lives are filled with moments that can be appreciated; it’s just a matter of taking the time to realize it.

For me, part of the joys of summer come from doing activities that I love like spending time with my kids, long evenings outside spent with friends grilling, and roadtrips with my family. Everyone has those activities that bring joy to them during the summer. By finding other things that bring us joy that are unrelated to summer, we can capture that same summer energy in our everyday lives.

I am fortunate to work with my passion. Everyday is an adventure – even when all I may really want is a nap – but it is a gift in itself to find joy in what I do every day. Delysia Chocolatier is about these indulgent gifts. We create a product that fills your senses with luxury. The chocolate I craft is more than the taste or smell or anything else associated with a tangible object. For me, my craft is about that gift I can offer to others that creates an enveloping moment. I think that to many, summer is a time that offers experiences that are outside of the ordinary. Because these occasions are experienced so infrequently, we soak them in and become absorbed in the moment. It is because we are appreciating the moments in which we are a part of, that summer feels so carefree and fun.

Soon Delysia will be preparing for the holiday season and it will seem long ago that I was taking my children to swim lessons or making trips with my family around the country. So as the summer ends, I encourage you to cherish the “summertime” moments that are left and think of ways to bring that same joy to your life in smaller ways year round. It could be the first smell of coffee in the morning, a big hug from your little ones, or an evening catching up on your favorite shows. Find the times that feel small but precious and live in those moments. And I hope Delysia can be a part of some of those.

What plans do you have remaining for summer? Any ideas of everyday moments to appreciate? Let us know in the comments.
