Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 21, and this is a great time to celebrate all the Dads in your life — fathers, grandfathers husbands, brothers, uncles, and even those that are Dads to four-legged “kids.” This is their day to be honored for all the work they do as a father.
Did you know the tradition of Father’s Day is 105 years old? The first ever Father’s Day was held in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. It was the idea of Sonora Dodd, who had been raised by her father. She thought if mothers had their own Mother’s Day, why shouldn’t fathers? Dodd encouraged churches in her community to honor fathers that June — which was her father’s birthday month — and the tradition took hold.
Dads do so much for their families every day — giving him a day that is all about him is a great way to say thank you. Here’s some ideas for planning the perfect Father’s Day for the Dads in your life!
