The International Chocolate Awards, sponsored by Seventy%, is a competition set up to recognize the top quali
ty chocolate from the cream of the crop of world class chocolatiers. The awards are designed to reflect international tastes and offer a level playing field for international entries. The judging panel is made up of experts, food journalists and pastry chefs from the host country, overseen by a Grand Jury who travel to each competition.

The International Chocolate Awards Americas competition received over 200 entries. Products categories included bars and filled chocolates (bonbons, pralines, ganaches, chocolate spreads and typical national chocolate products) judged in national and regional rounds, with a Grand Final to determine the best of the best. The first year included rounds in Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with the first year’s Grand Final being held in the United Kingdom in October 2012, coinciding with London’s Chocolate Week.

Delysia Chocolatier won in the following category:
• Filled Chocolates (Dark) -Ganaches & Truffles for Delysia’s Jalapeno Tequila Truffle

Owner and Chocolatier Nicole Patel describes the Jalapeno Tequila Truffle as a “powerful warmth and a sweet spice from local jalapenos, followed by a hint of tequila.”

The 2012 International Chocolate Awards judging was based on a rigorous platform and was organized and managed by Judging Director Martin Christy. The judging system identified key areas in the assessment of a chocolate sample and assigned marks on a scale of 1 to 5 for each of the categories below:
• Execution
• Formulation
• Interpretation
• Taste

Each chocolate sample received marks in each category, with a weighting towards the 100% total. All judging forms were made available to those who entered, as well as to the general public for transparency.

Winner’s in the Americas Semi-Final’s will go on to compete in the World Grand Finals as part of London’s Chocolate Week in October (8th-14th).
