With the coinciding of Flag Day, National Bourbon Day and Father’s Day this week, what better way to celebrate and make these days even more special than by pairing bourbon with some smooth decadent chocolate.
Here’s a bit of a refresher on what bourbon is and why it has been the go-to drink for Americans since the 18th century. Bourbon is a spirit made from 51% corn and aged in new charred oak barrels. There’s a common misconception that it needs to be made in Kentucky but that’s not true. While it must be bottled at 80% proof (40% alcohol by volume) it can be produced anywhere in the United States. With a capacity to be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or used as the base for some really delicious cocktails, this spirit is a staple in most bars, restaurants, and homes.
While hot toddies and the perfect Manhattan come to mind when blending bourbon with other ingredients, you can also pair it with chocolate. Here’s a fun recipe that is a marriage of the two. The smoothness of the drinking chocolate will complement the freshly cut flowers fragrance and the caramel apple taste of Garrison Brothers Distillery’s Flagship 2015 Vintage.
Bourbon Spiked Drinking Chocolate Recipe
- 32 ounces of heated milk
- 12 to 16 teaspoons of Delysia Chocolatier’s Dark Chocolate Drinking Chocolate mix
- 6 to 8 tablespoons Garrison Brothers Flagship 2015 Vintage Bourbon
- Toasted marshmallows (for serving)
Stir all ingredients together and enjoy at your temperature of choice.

Or you can also go a different route and choose to pair a box of handmade truffles with that bottle of bourbon you’re getting dad this Father’s Day. If you’re leaning toward this option, we recommend the following three truffle boxes:
Delysia’s Texas Hill Country Collection contains 3 smoked salted bourbon pecan chocolate truffles plus two additional flavors, honey chipotle and Mexican mole. Each truffle packed with unique ingredients and flavor profiles will easily stand up to the sharp taste of the liquor and result in a powerful yet enjoyable merger.
Delysia’s Spirits Collection which features 3 bourbon truffles, 3 scotch truffles, and 3 rum truffles. The dark chocolate truffles are each infused with their respective aged liquor striking the right balance.
Delysia’s Gentleman’s Collection is comprised of 3 scotch infused truffle, 3 dark chocolate truffles ,and 3 cigar infused truffles each encapsulated in lovely bittersweet chocolate. This collection is available only twice a year, during the winter holidays and Father’s Day.
No matter which option you choose, you can’t go wrong – bourbon and chocolate were meant to be enjoyed together!
